Hepatitis A – Serology Test Ordering Instructions

Complete the “Hepatitis Serology” section adjacent to Section 3 of the General Test Requisition Form AND complete the “Clinical Information” section adjacent to Section 5 (if applicable).

Type of Test

To test for “immunity”:

Select: “Immune Status” AND Hepatitis A

Test that will be performed:

Hepatitis A IgG

To test for “acute infection”:

Select: “Acute Infection” AND Hepatitis A

AND

indicate clinical symptoms pertaining to acute viral hepatitis under “Clinical Information”

Test that will be performed:

Hepatitis A IgM                 

Clinical information pertaining to acute viral hepatitis must be provided. If not, only Hepatitis A IgG will be performed.

AND

Image of the Section 5 ‘Clinical Information’ of the General Test Requisition.

To support investigations of recent exposures and outbreaks:

Both Hepatitis A IgM and IgG can be ordered.

Select: “Immune Status” AND “Acute Infection” (*Can ignore instruction on requisition to check only one box) AND Hepatitis A.

AND

indicate clinical information pertaining to a recent Hepatitis A Virus exposure, outbreak investigation, contact with known case etc. under “Clinical Information”.

Tests that will be performed:

Hepatitis A IgM
Hepatitis A IgG

Clinical information and/or exposure information (if asymptomatic) must be provided. If no clinical or exposure information is provided, only Hepatitis A IgG will be performed.
